3 Situations Where I DON'T Rate and/or Review Books

I made a post a while back on July 14 about rating and reviewing books you've DNF-ed. It was a controversial bookish topic, and I basically said that it's up to your discretion about when you do or don't rate and/or review books you've DNF-ed. That post gave me the idea for this post, so here we are.

Most of the time, I do rate and review a book I've read. Usually, especially with fiction, I try to keep my reviews as vague as possible while giving a good, honest review. This way, I'm not unintentionally spoiling a certain part and I'm not giving too much away in my review.

However, there have been times where I haven't rated and reviewed books. I wanted to go over them with you and give a little explanation as to why this is the case for me. So here are 3 situations where I DON'T rate and/or review books and why.

Situation 1: Books I DNF-ed before reaching 50%
I will often include it in my "(have) read" list since I did give the book a shot. However, I won't rate and review a book if I didn't hit roughly 50% of the book. I just guess how far I got with physical books, whereas most ebook apps tell you where you are, percentage-wise. So if I don't hit around 50% or more with a book before DNF-ing it, I won't rate and review it. However, I will mention that I DNF-ed it, and I will mention around what percentage I DNF-ed it at. If I give a book I DNF-ed a second chance and actually make it through, then I will review it.

Situation 2: Books I've read for school and classes.
I always include books I've read for school and classes in "books I've read" lists and my yearly Goodreads reading challenge. However, I won't immediately rate and review them until I've re-read them outside of the class setting. This is because I want to read the book without the overhanging questions that my classes require me to keep in mind as I read.

Situation 3: Books where I don't know exactly how I felt.
It is okay to not know how you feel about a book. Sometimes, it takes a little while to figure out your feelings on a book. And sometimes, you never figure out how you feel about it. And whenever I feel this way about a book, I don't write a review on a book until I know how I feel about it. And if I never figure out my feelings on it (which doesn't happen often), then I don't write any review on it. And sometimes, I will give a book a re-read if I feel like that's what it'll take for me to know my feelings on it.
