10 Tips for Getting into Reading (or Getting Back into Reading)

If you're not a reader, it can be a bit hard to get into reading. And if you stopped reading for a long spell of time, it can be hard to get back into doing it. Hopefully, this post can help out in that respect if you want to get into (or back into) reading.

Tip 1: Know what genre(s) you like. One way you can know what genre(s) you like due to what movies and/or tv shows you like to watch. You like sci-fi movies and tv shows? Read sci-fi books. You like fantasy movies and tv shows? Read fantasy books.
Tip 2: Do a little bit of research into your favorite/preferred genres. This may seem tedious, but it can help you out. Look into what sub-genres may or may not be included in your preferred genres. Look into authors. Goodreads, Booktube, and Bookstagram are your easiest forms of research. A quick Google search would also help.
Tip 3: Be open to all book formats - physical and electronic. If you only limit yourself to one format of book, you're limiting your resources.
Tip 4: Be open to all genres. I know I put to know what genre you like in Tip 1. However, limiting yourself to only your favorite genre(s) limits the possibilities of finding new favorite books. It can also lead to reading slumps.
Tip 5: Don't feel pressured to read a book or author that's being hyped up. Yes, that book/author is being hyped up for a reason. That doesn't mean, though, that you'll like the book or author just because everyone else likes the book or author.

Tip 6: Figure out your reading pace, and read at your own pace. Don't force yourself to read at a slower pace or faster pace.
Tip 7: Don't feel pressured to read multiple books in one year, or even in one month. You need to read at your own pace. (This one is similar to Tip 6, but I felt to make it its own tip.)
Tip 8: Reach out to other readers. Whether it's through social media or your personal social circle, having a reading circle can help you find books to read and help you out if needed.
Tip 9: Get a library card. Whether it's a physical card or an e-card, having a library card can really expand your options for books to read.
Tip 10: Always have a book on hand. And being open to all book formats, like mentioned in Tip 3, will make this easier. This way, if you end up having to wait somewhere, you can get some reading in.
