As we all know, I hope, World War II was a terrible war that took place from September 1939 to September 1945. WWII is very close to us chronologically. We haven't even hit 100 years since its beginning, although we're getting close - it'll be 82 years this September.
There are a lot of historical fiction books about or directly relating to WWII due to its relative closeness to 2021 and the amount of documentation surrounding the war. I made a post on June 7th about why I think there are so many WWII-centered books, and I mentioned that I'd like to see more variety in the genre.
While it is great to see all this historical fiction showing up in literature, it can be tedious to just read and read and read about WWII. This post will hopefully help you find some historical fiction books that aren't about WWII.

Here are 7 historical fiction books that don't center around World War II:
- The Pull of the Stars, Emma Donoghue
- Helen of Troy, Margaret George
- The Kite Runner, Khaled Hosseini
- The Song of Achilles, Madeline Miller
- The Feast of All Saints, Anne Rice
- The Fountains of Silence, Ruta Sepetys
- The Underground Railroad, Colson Whitehead
These are the two duologies that don't center around World War II:
- Nero duology, Margaret George
- Ramses the Damned duology, Anne Rice

As with any of my recommendation posts here, I try to only include books I've read. I also include all books I've read, no matter my personal feelings on them (unless it's a favorite books recommendation post). For this post, I felt like it was especially important to include any and all books that don't revolve around WWII because historical fiction is swamped with that topic in one regard or another.
I hope you all enjoyed this list. Feel free to include other books I may have missed!
