Want to Be a Book Blogger? Here's What You Need

The title of this post might seem a little daunting: "Want to Be a Book Blogger? Here's What You Need." Even more so if you're new to the bookish community.

No matter where you do your book blogging - Booktube, Bookstagram, Book Twitter, or on a blog like this one - you really don't need much. The way I see it, you only need three things: a book, a camera, and your thoughts.
  • Having many books can help, but you really only need one book to start off. Even if it's a library book, if you have access to one book, then that works.
  • Most of us have access to some form of technology - a computer, an ipad, a phone, etc. You can use your phone's camera for the photos.
  • Your thoughts can include how you feel before reading the book, while reading it, and after. And remember, it's all opinion when it comes to books. Your friend may love a book, but that doesn't mean you have to.

While they can help, you don't need to have pro editing/photoshop skills. If you're on Bookstagram or Book Twitter, having nice-looking photos can be a positive and make your account more cohesive. However, nice looking photos doesn't necessarily equal good editing/photoshop skills.

Find a spot you like around your house to use as the backdrop, clear it up (if needed) so you can take the photos, and then go from there. You can have as much or as little going on in the photos as you want. Whether or not your photos have filters is also up to you.

If you get more books, skills, etc. along the way, that's fantastic. But you don't need a bucket load of books or skills to start out. If you want to blog about books - in any way, on any platform - just go for it.
